In 2015-2016 we got 28 inches in January on the 23rd of that month we got a Snowpocalypse. The worst of the Winter will likely be observed from mid to late January into early February. But the snow was machine-made for a winter.
There will be plenty of snow and cold-chilling temperatures in the forecast as the Almanac predicts a cold winter for the northern half of the United States. The coldest snap will hit during the last week of January 2020 and stretch into February according to the forecast. Last years winter season saw just 48 inches of snowfall in the city.
20202021 winter weather outlook for the New York area. 2020 has certainly been a year of weather-related extremes. November 2020 to October 2021 Winter temperatures will be above normal on average with the coldest periods in mid-December and early and mid-January.
NYCs 30 year average annual snowfall is 289 and we expect less than average snowfall during this upcoming winter season. That was the Old Farmers Almanac 2021 winter forecast. And it should be noted that last year the city had barely 10 inches of snow.
Our current expectation is for temperatures to average near or slightly above average in NYC with near or slightly above average snowfall. The snowiest periods will occur in mid-December and early March. Precipitation will be near normal with mostly below-normal snowfall.
